How to Handle Your Employees’ Absences and
Job-Related Stress During the Global Pandemic

with Kristen Garner, ASBA Staff Attorney

REGISTER HERE for Monday, August 10

With school start-up right around the corner, school leaders are facing uphill challenges. From keeping your students safe and learning in multiple environments to protecting your teachers and staff as they carry out this mission. Have you stopped to think about steps you need to take when one of your team members (or you) becomes sick?  Can you provide your district employees with clear expectations and action plans for this scenario? It is critical that you and your team know the meanings and implications of:

    • Emergency Paid Sick Leave Act (EPSLA)
    • Emergency Family and Medical Leave Expansion Act (EFMLEA)

We invite you to join Kristen Garner, ASBA Staff Attorney, for an information-packed, three-hour virtual workshop covering these topics and more. The cost of registration is $120. We ask that multiple people not share a single registration but instead, register separately and obtain individual log-ins.

It will be offered on three dates/times as follows. Choose the date you want to attend, then follow the link below to register.

If you have questions about the workshop, please contact Dr. Butcher at abutcher@arsba.org. For questions about registration, contact Kathy Ivy at kivy@arsba.org.

Act 1029 Training for Board Members

    REGISTER HERE

Act 1029 of 2019 mandates that all school staff and board members in Arkansas have training in student safety, discipline, and bullying. School staff who work directly with students are required to have more in-depth training while board training is meant to provide members an overview of the requirements of the Act, an awareness of its purpose, and a look at what they need to know about to have a better understanding of any actions of the administration and staff take in regard to discipline and bullying.

For board members in districts that adopted ASBA Model Policy 1.11, all board members elected before 2019 should receive this training by December 31 of 2020. Board members elected during and after 2019 should receive it as part of their initial nine hours. It is only required one time during a member’s tenure.

The training is for one hour of credit and the cost is $40 per person.

If you have questions, please contact Dr. Anne Butcher at abutcher@arsba.org.
