Whether you’re a new board member or a seasoned veteran, there are always new leadership skills to explore.  ASBA's New Board Member Institute is a day-long workshop designed for newly elected or appointed board members seeking to gain a greater understanding of the duties and responsibilities of board service. It's also a great opportunity for veteran board members to refresh, recharge and work with new board colleagues.

Topics covered at the institute will include the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), ethics, and the roles and responsibilities of board members.  Also included will be the do’s and don’ts of executive sessions, procedures for conducting orderly board meetings, as well as the board’s relationship with the superintendent and community.

A line-up of ASBA staff, school board members, and superintendents will present throughout the day, in addition to mock scenarios, problem simulations, active learning and Q&A to reinforce learning.

WHEN: NBMI will be held Tuesday, October 13, 2015. Check-in and continental breakfast begin at 8 a.m. The sessions will start at 9 a.m. and continue until 3:30 p.m. Click here to view the agenda.
