    New School Board MemberThe day-long New Board Member Institute with Audit Training is designed for recently elected school board members in the transition from private citizen to public official. This ASBA training institute will include critical information and resources to help new board members become effective board members quickly. It's also a great opportunity for veteran board members to refresh, recharge and work with new board colleagues and superintendents are always a welcome addition.

    Topics covered at the institute will include the Freedom of Information Act, ethics, the roles and responsibilities of board members, and the legally required audit training.  Also included will be the do’s and don’ts of executive sessions, procedures for conducting orderly board meetings, as well as the board’s relationship with the superintendent and community.

    WHEN: NBMI will be held Monday, June 24, 2019. Check-in and continental breakfast begin at 7:45 a.m. The sessions will start at 8:30 a.m. and adjourn at 3:30 p.m. An on-site lunch is included with registration.

    The ASBA Workshop for Administrative Professionals is a day-long professional development opportunity for administrative assistants, school secretaries, bookkeepers and others whose job duties intersect with the work of their school board. Designed specifically for those who seek to achieve excellence in providing professional services to their superintendents, school boards, and stakeholders, their system-level duties are vast and vital and often have both practical and legal implications for their schools and boards.

    This will be an opportunity for board members, superintendents, and other school personnel to hear experts in their field cover such leadership issues as data device decision making strategies for raising student achievement and how board and superintendents work together to carry their school district to the next level. Conference participants will also have opportunities to review and discuss “best practices” from boards and superintendents that have created successful schools, as well as to hear a panel of experts explain hot topic issues from Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi.
