Registration Open for New Board Member Institute
Registration is now open for ASBA’s 2013 New Board Member Institute to be held October 14 at the DoubleTree Hotel in downtown Little Rock. Check-in and networking begin at 8 a.m. and the sessions run from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. School board members will earn six hours of training credit for attending.
The institute is designed for newly elected school board members, but all are welcome.
ASBA wants to help you get off to the right start in serving your schools and students and reduce dramatically the time necessary for you to get up to speed. This one-day training will help you better cope with your first months of service. Attend and learn about your critical role and responsibilities.
Are you a veteran board member? If so, come work with your new board colleagues and take advantage of this opportunity to refresh and recharge. The following topics will be covered:
- Top 10 Board Member Roles and Responsibilities (including school finance)
- Effective New Board Member Orientation
- The Arkansas Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)
- The Nuts and Bolts of School Board Meetings
- District Information Every New School Board Member Needs to Know
- Becoming a Better Board Team—The Human Element of Leadership
