ASBA Accepting Proposals for Annual Conference Sessions

It’s time to share your most exiting, innovative and successful programs, best practices and initiatives at the 2018 Arkansas School Boards Association Annual Conference, set for December 5-7. ASBA is seeking presentation proposals from school district personnel, school board members and other organizations for high-quality, breakout sessions that focus on topics of critical interest to board members and administrators from across Arkansas. Our goal is for all conference participants to leave this event empowered with new ideas, information, and skills that will help in improving outcomes for students in their districts.

Does your school or organization have a great story to tell, or vital information that would help board members succeed? If so, we invite you to submit a presentation proposal! This year's conference theme is Student-Focused Leadership.


For the 2018 ASBA Annual Conference program, we are seeking proposals for presentations that meet the following criteria:

  • Targets board members as the primary audience
  • Enhances the knowledge, skills, and abilities of board members with an emphasis on improving student outcomes
  • Includes a school board member as a participant in the presentation (not required but preferred)
  • Shares promising strategies and practices that can be replicated by other districts of all sizes
  • Is designed and delivered to engage the audience in meaningful ways
  • Demonstrates innovative ideas and solutions
  • Provides solid, practical, how-to information and tips that board members can take back and apply at the board table


ASBA is seeking presentations related to the following categories:
  • Student AchievementPresentations will center around the implementation of unique practices that have a positive impact on student achievement. This track offers an opportunity for districts to celebrate their  successes with a “we did it and so can you” approach.
  • Governance and Leadership - This category includes facets of board leadership and governance principles including topics such as advocating earnestly, leading responsibly, governing effectively, planning thoughtfully, evaluating continuously, communicating clearly, and acting ethically.
  • AdvocacyThis category focuses on how advocacy makes a difference both in your community and in the legislative process. Attendees will learn skills to become more effective advocates for public education as well as how to organize at the grassroots and legislative levels.
  • TechnologyThis category includes information that demonstrates how a district can best utilize technology for learning and leadership.
  • FinanceSessions in this category will show how districts allocate resources to support their mission and goals. This track can include solutions for better budgeting, financial issues affecting school districts, and practical advice on surviving difficult economic times.
  • Legal IssuesPresentations falling into this category will focus on legal issues related to public school including such areas as laws and regulations, best practices, ethical issues, court decisions, and legal hot topics.
  • Stakeholder InvolvementPresentations will focus on processes and activities used to increase involvement and collaboration with parents, families, educators and communities to improve the welfare and success of the school and its students.

Visit the ASBA Session Proposal Form webpage and submit a proposal the 65th Annual Conference today! All session proposals must be completed in their entirety and submitted by Friday, October 12, 2018.
