2015 New Board Member Institute
Registration is now open for ASBA’s 2015 New Board Member Institute (NBMI) to be held October 13, 2015 at the DoubleTree Hotel in downtown Little Rock. The institute will be held from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.; registration and continental breakfast will begin at 8 a.m. School board members will earn six hours of boardsmanship training credit for attending.
NBMI is designed for newly elected or appointed board members seeking to gain a greater understanding of the duties and responsibilities of board service. It’s also a great opportunity for veteran board members to refresh, recharge and work with new board colleagues.
Topics covered at the institute will include the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), ethics, and the roles and responsibilities of board members. Also included will be the do’s and don’ts of executive sessions, procedures for conducting orderly board meetings, as well as the board’s relationship with the superintendent and community.
A line-up of ASBA staff, school board members and superintendents will present throughout the day in addition to mock scenarios, problem simulations, active learning and Q&A to reinforce learning.
