Start earning your 2015 board development hours! Attend one of the Arkansas School Boards Association’s Regional Winter Institutes scheduled in each of the four corners of our state:
One of the topics on this year’s agenda is an update about what’s happening at the Capitol during the current legislative session. Another topic covered will be an overview and update of the superintendent evaluation that is now being piloted by 14 districts across the state, with an additional 20-30 districts being invited to participate in 2015-2016. You will hear from ASBA staff, board members, and superintendents who are currently piloting this new evaluation process and learn how your district can become a participant in next year’s pilot.
A presentation on Career and Technical Education in Arkansas (CTE) will encourage you to take a look at your district’s current CTE programs and whether they align with the identified career needs and opportunities in your area of the state. You will learn more of CTE’s career pathways meant to provide specialized training and real-world work experience, reinforce academic skills and their application in the workplace, and prepare students for a variety of occupations from entry through professional levels.
You will finish the evening with a session on becoming a positive spokesperson for your school district. Veteran school board members will share proven ideas and strategies to help you support and promote district concerns, achievements, and goals with students, parents, staff and community members.
There is no better way to network with colleagues for professional learning than at an ASBA training, especially one that may be closer to home in your region of the state. We hope you will register today and join us for an enjoyable and valuable learning experience!
