Dr. Tony Thurman, Superintendent of the Cabot School District, was recently named the 2015 Superintendent of the Year. Dr. Richard Abernathy, Executive Director of the Arkansas Association of Educational Administrators, surprised Dr. Thurman with the award during the September 16 meeting of the Cabot school board. Selection for the award is based on leadership for learning, communication, professionalism and community involvement. ASBA Executive Director Dr. Tony Prothro said, “Dr. Tony Thurman has long been recognized as an innovative, progressive educational leader. It is worthy that he receive this prestigious recognition from his peers.” Each state association of school administrators selects a State Superintendent of the Year. These superintendents are then in the running for National Superintendent of the Year, and will be recognized and honored in February at the 2015 American Association of School Administrators National Conference in San Diego, California.
