Championing excellence in public education through training, advocacy and service for local school boards

2010 Joint Conference of the ASBA & AAEA

The relationship between the school board and superintendent is critical to effective school governance and operations. That relationship also affects community perceptions and support for the local schools.

The 2010 Joint Conference hosted by the Arkansas School Boards Association (ASBA) and the Arkansas Association of Educational Administrators (AAEA) on May 11 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Little Rock will cover the following topics:

  • Effective Leadership and Student Achievement
  • What Act 1180 of 2009 (The School Board Law) Means for Your District Leadership Team
  • How to Find and Keep the Right Superintendent
  • What Nurtures and Damages the Board/Superintendent Relationship
  • Educational Leadership (Act 222 of 2009)
  • Update on the Status of Teacher Evaluation
  • What the Board Should Hold the Superintendent Accountable for in the District
  • The Superintendent Evaluation Process
  • Superintendent Evaluation Resources

Registration is $125 per person through May 1 and $150 after May 1. Refunds will be made by check; no refunds will be made after May 3.

Check-in and continental breakfast begin at 8:00 a.m.; sessions begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m. School board members will earn six hours of training credit.

The DoubleTree Hotel is offering a discounted rate of $109 per night for rooms for this event; the hotel cutoff date for room reservations is April 20, 2010. Hotel reservations may be made by calling 1.800.222.8733 or 1.501.372.4371; please tell them you are with the Arkansas School Boards Association group to get the $109 discounted rate.

There are four ways to register:

  2. E-mail completed registration form to kivy@arsba.org; or
  3. Mail form with check to: ASBA, P. O. Box 165460, Little Rock, AR 72216-5460; or
  4. Preferred method: Register online at by clicking here.

Note to superintendents and their secretaries: Please log-in our registration site using your work e-mail address. The screen you should see after you log-in will show all of your board members' names with check boxes next to them for your ease of registration. If after logging in you DO NOT get the screen showing your board members' names, you are not using an e-mail address in our system. Please immediately contact Kathy Ivy at ASBA at 1-501-492-4825 or via e-mail at kivy@arsba.org.

If you have logged into the online registration system incorrectly, you will see a screen that has in green the words "Attendee Information." This allows people who are not in our system to register; if you proceed, you will create a duplicate record, and things will get really messed up!

Once you complete your registration, you will receive a confirmation email with a link to follow for a listing of your registrants. Please use this listing as an invoice to pay for registration fees.

Our online registration system will enable us to quickly record board members' training hours after conferences and seminars.
