ASBA member survey open
The Arkansas School Boards Association is surveying its members to gather demographic information, board training needs and preferences, and education issue views. The survey results will help ASBA as it develops board development offerings, advocacy efforts and other programs and services for Arkansas school board members. Print copies of the survey are being mailed to ASBA members; please do not complete both the paper copy and the online survey. ASBA asks that only Arkansas school board members participate in this survey. Please complete the survey by March 15. Click here to take survey.

New Region 1 Director appointedSteve Percival
Steve Percival, a member of the Fayetteville School Board, was appointed by the ASBA Executive Committee to serve as the Region 1 Director. A vacancy was created when Richard Watson of Lincoln resigned. Percival will serve until the fall regional meetings when an election will be held.

ASBA Scholarship application period open
Children of current publicly elected Arkansas school board members may apply for the ASBA Educational Foundation Scholarship. Click here for eligibility information, application requirements and links to the application form. Application form and all required documentation must be received by ASBA by April 1.

Arkansas Out-of-School Network offers assistance
The Arkansas Out-of-School Network (AOSN) is part of a national effort to expand access to high quality after school and summer programs in local communities. The AOSN is offering staff time, information and resources to help a community work together, to plan for success and to bring more opportunities for young people to your community. EEOC law changes
On November 21, 2009, the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA) of 2008 which was signed into law on May 21, 2008, went into effect. This Act is intended to prevent employers from discriminating against individuals based on genetic tests and information. GINA requires that covered entities obtain and post notices informing covered individuals of their rights under the law. Click here for a poster that must be posted by employers.
