For a leader, careful listening with presence and awareness is a critical skill that you must master. When you tune out the wrong people and information, you run the risk of depriving yourself of priceless learning. During the 64th Annual Conference, the Listen-Learn-Lead-LogoArkansas School Boards Association (ASBA) will encourage you to Listen. Learn. Lead.” This means process what you hear, grow from it, and apply it to the leadership challenges you face as board members. By tuning in to the wealth of inspiration that surrounds us we can become more empathetic, smarter, successful leaders.

ASBA’s 2017 Annual Conference will take place December 6-8, 2017 at the Marriott Hotel and Statehouse Convention Center in downtown Little Rock. This two-and-a-half-day conference is the largest annual gathering of school board members in the state. General sessions will feature noted speakers, and breakouts will allow board members to focus on approaches and methods for improving student performance in a number of program tracks including best practices, finance & funding, and governance & leadership. Exhibits will feature over fifty Commercial Affiliate Partners, to help you make sound and prudent decisions on products and services that are essential to your district’s educational program. The policy-making ASBA Delegate Assembly will also convene to conduct its annual business.

Keynote: Creating Future-Focused Schools

Today’s students need to be prepared for their future. Living in a rapidly evolving global economy, students need to be able to think at higher levels, employ strong literacy and analytical skills, and solve problems in unpredictable situations. There is currently a gap between what students need and what our schools provide. To be prepared for success in today’s increasingly teBill_Headshot_Websitechnology-focused and information-based society, ALL students need a rigorous and relevant learning experience.

Keynote Speaker Dr. Bill Daggett will describe how the nation’s most rapidly improving schools are proactive, rather than reactive, to the demands of new standards, tests, and teacher evaluation requirements and have created a culture to support, define, and implement innovative, rigorous learning experiences for ALL students to better prepare them for the ever-changing world.
